Background
Oklahoma Wesleyan University has long been focused on helping students get a solid start to their academic and professional careers. They began offering on-campus concurrent courses for nearby high school students in the 1980s. This initiative enabled high school students to integrate with college students in the traditional setting. OKWU later wrote and designed online dual enrollment courses as new technologies became available.
Objective
OKWU wanted to create a consistent dual enrollment catalog they could offer every term, no matter how many students enrolled or which faculty member was available to teach. The team also wanted to focus on making their dual enrollment program a true introduction to OKWU and create a seamless pathway for matriculation to the university. To address university goals, the courses would need to match the quality that students expect from OKWU and incorporate the Christ-centered mission at the heart of the university

“TEL professionals are prompt, kind, and flexible. Our specific institutional needs matter to TEL; they have worked tirelessly to accommodate our specific requests, and they do so with a smile.”
Dr. Dalene Fisher Assistant Provost, Dean of Arts and Sciences at Oklahoma Wesleyan University
Solution
OKWU wasn’t looking for a new dual enrollment solution when they heard about TEL Education. However, after learning more about TEL courses, the OKWU team recognized the opportunity a consistent catalog of high-quality courses might provide their students. With no minimum enrollment required, students and faculty could better plan their schedules knowing that courses would be available each term.
While the OKWU team was impressed with the quality and rigor of the courses, they also wanted to incorporate more of their own material. They worked closely with the TEL curriculum team to build custom content specific to OKWU in the courses.
With the affordable price point, OKWU decided to relaunch their dual enrollment program as OKWU Prep. Through OKWU Prep, students get introduced to the excellent support and family-like atmosphere at OKWU while also earning up to a year’s worth of college credit in high school. The OKWU team created an informational and engaging landing page for program promotion and efficient enrollment.
