Affordable Dual Credit for Rural High Schools

by | Mar 28, 2019 | Learning Design

I’ve written previously about the benefits of dual enrollment programs for rural school districts (herehere, and here), and how these programs, properly designed, can help us provide high-quality postsecondary options for schools and students.

This is a core tenet of TEL Library’s mission to make it possible for everyone to have equitable access to high-quality, affordable postsecondary education. Through our demanding but flexible curriculum that addresses high school standards and provides the option of college credit, we partner with rural high schools to build an effective bridge that leads to college readiness and success.

Yesterday, TEL Library’s Jae Strickland and Roger Gerstenberger were joined by Brent Bushey, Executive Director of the Oklahoma Public School Resource Center, in a webinar on the benefits of our dual-credit program for rural schools.  Their wide-ranging conversation addressed:

  • The barriers to postsecondary education faced by rural students
  • The benefits of dual-credit programs for rural districts and schools
  • How TEL makes its program both accessible and affordable for rural high schools
  • Specific examples from TEL’s pilot program with Pawhuska High School
